improper: The average American woman seems to take a lot of pride in taking care of her hands. I see women all the time (though this is not the average American woman - I have to point that out because we ARE on the internet and all) dressed down beyond casual, and not wearing any make-up, with hair that hasn’t been washed in two days and yet their hands are so smooth and smelling of flowers and lotion, and their nails so perfectly manicured nails with not even the slightest chip. I personally, take pride in the work my hands shows, and I often wonder why anyone would choose to look like they have never lifted a finger. My hands have always been thin, and tiny, and covered in large blue veins, which got considerably worse and more aged as I started to get hard into fishkeeping at the age of 6, taking care and cleaning my fishtanks by myself out of choice (of course with the supervision of my father), which can considerably age anyone’s hands, running your hands through gravel in burning hot water, getting beaten up on rocks and wood, and then later with age - live rock and crushed coral can really take its toll. I have no shame in my hands, and how they are always getting beat up, and messed up, and how nail polish doesn’t make it past 24 hours without a chip (no matter which coating i’ve tried). I have no problems getting the comments i’ve always gotten. From compliments on their character, to remarks about how I should pay more attention to them, to just being called plain ol’ unattractive and ugly (and many more worse things). But what always struck me is… how often i’ve gotten called comments on them being “man hands” (especially before I showed my face here). Excuse me, but what is so wrong with wanting to be as hard working as any ‘man’ can be, and why on earth would anyone be ashamed of the age they have earned? I don’t know, I don’t, i’m a little out there at the moment. Ignore me, as usual. A Beautiful NATURAL beauty! -- source link
