Sorcerous Stabber OrphenStreaming on Funimation.Dude watches a lady at his magic academy turn into a dragon. It has clearly given him emotional issues and we see him having probably quit later and being a yelly protag getting swindled by kids(?) as you did as a protag in late 90s early 00s anime. This is a remake of a show I always saw discs for in stores and just never bought or saw because I was young and didn’t have a disposable income.Anyway, let’s not talk about the story or the art style or anything but - the sound design. Whoever was in charge of sound design on this show was living their ABSOLUTE BEST LIFE. The music delightfully sounds like a jRPG from 20 years ago and the sound effects - OH THE SOUND EFFECTS - they are so gloriously dated! It’s a shame the show didn’t do more to look old to match, because it makes those sound effects quite—comical??? Which is great in some scenes, but will probably not always work. The visuals do do a bit to feel dated, but it’s more in the direction and aesthetics of designs and visual cues than anything. (See screenshot above) The rest of the visual production values are quite high. But that’s par the course of being a remake I suppose. I’m just glad whoever was on sound design said “old school SFX!!” and ran with it lolOh, uh, the show itself was okay too. Will I watch Episode 2? Probably? -- source link
