treadsoftly-rpg: 24 | “Unemployed” | “I'm hard to forget.” (+) Cunning, observant, charismatic(-) Cocky, irreverent, doesn’t know when to quit Sharp as a tack, Gabriel easily picks up on what people want and, oftentimes, has the power to give it to them, though he often chooses not to. His personality fills the room and he can carry on a conversation with everyone, but his own cockiness means he sometimes clashes with others, especially when he goes on about sensitive topics or, well, how great he is. Gabriel suffers from the kind of chronic boredom seen only in Chicago’s most elite. To fill it he used to go hunting and partying, but he’s turned to a new, more secret occupation: prostitution. He gets a thrill out of selling himself and will only allow those he deems worthy to buy his time, leading to a very exclusive client list and a very tall stack of money that he simply doesn’t need. Gabriel Rothschild is nothing like his brother. They don’t look alike, they don’t sound alike, and they certainly don’t act alike. From the very start he found himself having to prove this. Theo, at a decade older, was already making waves in the community by the time Gabriel was born. He was an overachiever, turning heads left and right, and it was clear that everyone in the Rothschild family expected the youngest of the brood to do the same. Before Gabriel could even start thinking about his future, it was already decided for him. It’s very difficult to go against the will of a family with such massive influence like the Rothschilds, but somehow Gabriel succeeded. As Theo ascended higher and higher on Chicago’s social ladder, becoming a high-profile, high-success lawyer, Gabriel ascended, too—but not the way his parents wanted him to. He became known for his inventive hunting parties and his general shrugging off of any kind of responsibility, flaunting his life of excess and leisure with the kind of glee that only comes from defying authority. There was only one problem with the life Gabriel had created for himself: it grew boring. Though the faces were always different and he was always thinking up new, wasteful ways to burn through his parents’ money, it wasn’t enough to keep him entertained, to stay defiant. The complacency with which his parents allowed his lifestyle was simply too much for him. And that was when he met Sandy. They were at a party when Gabriel caught wind of Sandy’s “business.” Immediately intrigued, he and Sandy conversed and, after a while, he confessed to what he really wanted: a shot at bringing in some money of his own. He was a little bit resentful that he had to share his earnings, but he wasn’t stupid—he understood that Sandy had the knowledge and know-how to ensure that he didn’t totally screw up on his first try. Soon he was operating like a professional, taking only the clients he decided were worthy of his time, but he didn’t forget about Sandy. Truth be told, he likes the guy to an extent, and he appreciates the guidance (not that he’d admit that to anyone). He doesn’t really need Sandy much anymore, but he continues to work with him anyway on principle. One person he will not work with on principle, however, is Theo, who is still as much of a thorn in his side as ever. His brother will just not stop overachieving, so really, Gabriel is justified in his irritation. If ever he crosses paths with his brother—which happens with blessed infrequency—he makes sure that Theo knows their feud is still going strong. Through all of this, he at least has a friend in Arthur Thomas, a classmate from school he’s stuck with over the years. The guy’s crazy, sure, but he facilitates Gabriel’s need to defy, to set the world alight, and that’s good enough for him. He’s just wondering how far his parents will bend before they finally break. This character has a secret which will be revealed to the roleplayer upon acceptance!
