copperbadge:Okay, Jerry, let’s do this.[ID: The cap of a prescription bottle, sitting on a woodgrain surface; one small mottled blue pill, a generic Adderall 10mg, is sitting inside the cap.] The Adderall is not working miracles, but it is definitely working. I started work promptly at nine (I’ve been starting at 10 after getting on at 8:30 and dicking around for ninety minutes, so this is progress). I managed to get through way more of my work than I thought I would today. I’m still easily distracted but I flip back into work mode much more easily. When I couldn’t book an appointment online, I called the office and booked it. I’ve got muscle aches from where my jaw and shoulders have relaxed. But the real evidence that the above is not just a placebo effect is that ASMR now randomly, suddenly, works on me.I started listening to ASMR videos years ago when I worked next to a guy who made disgusting snerk-noises constantly, and I had to drown him out. I couldn’t listen to spoken word because I had to focus on written word, music with vocals would distract me, and instrumental music and rhythmic white noise both vaguely annoy me. I’ve never reacted with the typical “tingles” to ASMR, so no-speech ASMR was a good irregular-white-noise generator. I’ve kept it up even after leaving that job, mostly out of habit, though also in the past year because of nearby construction noise. So this morning about half an hour into the workday I put my Beats on, queued up a “new ASMR videos in your subscriptions” playlist on youtube, and hit play. I went about my business and got the shock of my life when I actually reacted to the ASMR noise about two minutes later. I hadn’t even been consciously listening. That shit is bananas. I was not prepared. -- source link
