When I was a kid, I’d wake up at the crack of dawn, run to my little hallway office, bring out my pastels, and draw the sunrise from the window. It was something I did because I loved it, and recently I’ve needed that back in my life. • So much of being a freelance artist is creating to meet a deadline or create something you hope people will like enough to buy or follow or talk about, and sometimes it’s hard to fit what you love about art in the first place back into it. • So for my birthday the other day, I got up, grabbed my paints, and painted the sunrise out of my new little office, my rv. • Sometimes I have to remember to find time to reconnect with what gave me joy as an artist in the first place. I didn’t paint my first sunrises to get better or to sell.
