songofages: songofages: Thorin Oakenshield Cosplay Refs And Help. As a young Dwarf Prince, Thorin witnessed the destruction and terror wrought when a great fire-breathing dragon attacked the Dwarf Kingdom of the Lonely Mountain. When no one came to the aid of the surviving Dwarves, a once proud and noble race was forced into exile. Now, as the strong, fearless fighter and respected leader of The Company of Dwarves, Thorin is determined to reclaim his homeland and destroy the beast that brought such misery upon his people. COSTUME I can tell this will be another long one XD. This will also require a lot of energy and work if you want to have an awesome looking costume! He has a lot of layers, like an onion. • Outer Coat. Thorin wears a long, apparently sleeves black leather coat with fur trimmings and a fur collar/lapel. Unless you find something similiar where you can cut of the arms or cut the arms and add fake fur, you will have to make it. Real leather is expensive so try vinyl or fake leather from a fabric store. It stops just below his knees. • Inner Coat. Under this sleeveless coat, Thorin wears a soft looking dark blue coat that is kept together with an awesome pretty silver belt. There are markings embroidered onto this coat but its up to you whether you put it there. For the sake of layers, depending on where you live, keep in mind how hot you may be while wearing the costume. If you are making the pieces, try fabrics that wont make you overheat. (Aussies really keep this mind) A blue coat shouldn’t be too hard to find, try opshops and online. • Mail Shirt. Under the inner coat Thorin wears another layer, the iconic mail shirt. The mail covers most of the front and the shoulders as well as bordering the bottom and sides of the coat/shirt. Most people making this leave it with short sleeves. Some make the mail out of cardboard and silver paint, others out of modelling clay or sculpy. Its up to you depending on your budget, skills etc. But you’ll need lots of them. And probably fabric paint or something to attach them. It’s as long as the inner coat and mail shirt. • Inner Shirt. Omg Thorin stop with the layers already! Underneath everything, he has a pale blue long sleeves shirt. As this only appears around his neck its up to you. See previous refs on shirt finding etc for more info. • Pants. Thorin seems to wear grey pants underneath everything, like all dwarfs they are tucked into his shoes. If grey is too hard to find, search op shops for brown pants or paint the pants. Or make the pants! :) • Shoes. Ugg boots seem to be a theme for the dwarves. Nice brown ones wrapped in fake fur and small belts or bits of leather will do the trick. Foam armour around the toes finish the whole look. • Belt. Thorin wears a belt across his chest like his nephews but the real deal is around his waist. Its silver and amazing and will require painting a belt in silver and either making the clasp out of cardboard/clay etc or.. idk. You can buy a pendent with the symbol here and here. Or get a belt here. • Bracers. Like Fili and Kili, Thorin has arm bracers. Like them, they can be made with anything from cardboard to craft foam to leather. You can buy them here. • Jewellery. Thorin wears two rings. One is very simple. Its silver and can be made with modelling clay, you can buy a simple plain silver ring, hell you could even use tin foil! Its up to you. He also has a more complex ring that can be made with modelling clay if you wish or buy it here or on Weta. It’s expensive. • Weapons. Thorin has three weapons. A dwarven sword, Orcist and a dwarven axe. Its totally up to you how many weapons you want. If you are able to string one up on your back then two is enough otherwise I would reccomend just the one. You can again make any one of these but they can also be brought. Orcist: Here (metal) and here (larp). Dwarven Sword: Here (metal?) I cant find a larp version but it sort of looks like Fili’s? I can’t find any of the axes. • Wig and Beard. Thorin requires a majestic long dark brown or black with with strikes of grey. He has a braid on either side of his face. His beard can be drawn on, use makeup to put it on, crepe hair etc. The list is endless! But it must be majestic. OTHER PROPS. If you are doing photoshoots and want some props heres a couple. • The Key to Erebor. This is sort of important cause you can’t get into Erebor without it cause Smaug’s a jerk and won’t open the door. You can make this from modelling clay/papermache/duct tape whatever or buy it here or here or here’s a pendant. Also try ebay. • Thorin’s Map. Without the map the journey would be pointless because no one would know how to get to the bloody place. Again if money is an issue you can try and draw it, you’d have to stain the paper. You can buy it here, here and here. And idk..theres probably more to add so.. any questions please ask… Next up um…..uh….Dwalin! -- source link
