biofaunaexotics: Orinoco Crocodile (Crocodylus intermedius) Last month we FINALLY had the opportunity to visit our dear friend who owns Crocodile Encounter in Angleton, TX! In addition to having the largest captive collection of Nile Crocodiles in the world, this is hands down the closest we will ever come to the magnificent, and critically endangered, Orinoco Crocodile. This is a freshwater croc with a notoriously small range that can only be found in Colombia and Venezuela (more specifically, the Orinoco River and it’s tributaries, after which it was named). This species can get up to 17ft, with 13ft (and 840lbs) being the average adult size. We are VERY thrilled for our friends at Crocodile Encounters for being one of the few institutions in the world capable of beginning captive breeding efforts with such a beautiful species! -- source link
