drakestories: it had taken some persuading, but I finally convinced Dad not to shave his chest. He has a real furry pelt and always felt self-conscious about it. When he saw how hard it made me, he embraced it, and now even likes showing it off when we go to the beach. About a year ago I saw him standing in front of the bathroom mirror after a shower, the wet dew still clinging to his fur. He had a pair of tweezers and was plucking out hairs. “Dad, what are you doing?” “They’re starting to come in pretty gray, sport.” I exasperatedly tried to tell him to stop. That the silver made that pelt even hotter. I even went and got my laptop and pulled up some of my favorite pics. All dudes with salt-and-pepper on their chests, even full-on silver streaks. “All right, all right,” he surrendered. “I’ll give it a try.” When I saw him a few months later again with the tweezers, I figured he’s given up on the idea. I could see why. It takes a confident man to give up on the markers of youth. Dad looked up and saw the expression in my face. “Son, it’s not what you think. I just read… well, that if you pluck ‘em out they grow in thicker and longer.” I swear I popped a bone right then, which made Dad chuckle. His tweezing has paid off and this summer, he has a magnificent growth of silvery strands all over, particularly his upper chest and shoulders. Sometimes he’ll catch me staring as we’re out in public, him showing off his chest, and he’ll give a knowing wink. -- source link
