derangedhyena-delphinidae: arlluk: mermaidlunaofficial: jmventre: Written 2 decades ago, still as accurate & pertinent now. Can be read here: https://www.scribd.com/doc/50652564/The-Killing-Tanks-by-Gary-Hanauer Can we confirm any of these? Especially the last two?arlluk thesaddlepatch b3n3aththesurfac3 endkillerwhalecaptivity tokitaee freedomforwhales Sounds like BS to me. You can’t spray paint a collapsed dorsal fin to look normal, and no captive orca has an “amputated” fin. Maybe not the whole fin, but partial? Googling brings up http://www.upi.com/Archives/1984/03/17/Kiuller-whale-injured-during-courting/2971448347600/ ?Though it’s saying Namu (in Orlando), which is wrong and not helpful. The book Freeing Keiko (which I don’t have) apparently talks about it on page 191, for anyone who has that book… Maybe they’re getting spray paint mixed up with black zinc oxide lotion that was (is?) used on sunburnt captive orcas. It was Winston who had the partial amputation. I think we talked about it on here before. I’ve been looking for photos of it for years, but he was kept in the back and out of shows afterward until he died, so I’ve never seen what it looked like. At the time he was living with Keanu, Kandu V, Kasatka and Katina, so it’s one of those who messed his fin up. In the book Killer Whales of Prince William Sound, it says that two captive orcas have had dorsal amputations. I wrote an email to Craig Matkin asking if he had more information about it, but I never got a reply. -- source link
