Fenqihu Fenqihu (奮起湖) is famous of its old train station, nature scenery, and the railway lunch box in the valley below Alishan. Before 1910, there was no road connected to Alishan. The only way traveling between Chiayi and Alishan was by railway, and it took hours to reach the terminal station. Steam locomotive had to refill water and add coal midway, and Fenqihu was the biggest one. It took a lot of time to finish the replenishment, and train usually reached here around noon. Therefore, travelers and crews took a rest and had lunch here. Lumbering is forbidden now, and Alishan Railway is not as important as before. It’s easier than before to drive by oneself to reach Alishan. Most of the tourists taking the forest railway train are just for fun. Even these, some people still like to spend 1 or 2 hours here for the delicious railway lunch box, old street, and fireflies.
