Nudist Nightmare What nightmares do nudists have? The ones where they are forced to get dressed, of course! Lol. I, for one, have had many dreams where I was nude while others weren’t. Sometimes those around me didn’t seem to mind and other times they did. I had a dream recently that falls into the latter category. In it, I believed I had to keep my home nudity a secret from a textile housemate, who was also a co-worker, or lose my job and the roof over my head. When my housemate finally confronted me about hiding my nudity, I didn’t panic and was able explain my view calmly and simply. There is nothing wrong with wanting to live nude. In fact, living without clothing is a healthy life decision that provides moral, social, and personal benefits, such as increased self-confidence. I only kept it a secret because I thought he’d kick me out (how confident is that?). Afterwards, and possibility because it was a dream, the housemate was okay with my nudity, and I was free to remain so. A happy ending. The truth is, there were actually two endings. The above was the second one. The first had the bad outcome. When caught, I became a feeble crying ball of pathetic, playing into society’s expectations and betraying my core beliefs. It felt like the easier path even though I felt morally and mentally weak. It also served no purpose because I was kicked out anyway and lost my job in addition to the respect of my friends. What did I learn from this? First, don’t get caught when you can take care of it beforehand. If being nude means so much, talk about it when the opportunity presents itself. Doing so will prevent “caught” from ever being a possibility. It also removes the pretense that nudism is something to be ashamed about. In the dream, my keeping it a secret was based on an assumption started after overhearing my housemate rant about nudists on the beach. Had I only sat down with him, I would have learned his actual opinion on nudism and avoided the whole situation to begin with. (Although, the antics my dream self went to in order to avoid him during surprise moments were pretty hilarious in a Hollywood kind of way.)The second thing I learned was that it shouldn’t have been thought of as a secret. Since my wanting to be nude affected the house dynamic it was important to talk about. If it wasn’t, then I could’ve gone my merry nude way and he none the wiser. However, living together means we’ve got to trust each other and respect our differences so they don’t come as surprises. If not, then why are we living together? That distrust causes things like the above to happen and makes the environment toxic. (Besides, shouldn’t a housemate also be a friend or potentially one? What’s up with that trope that the housemate is only an acquaintance?) Side note: The rules are a bit different when it comes to the parent/child dynamic because theirs is a hierarchy in which one is dependent on the other. It is still good to talk about nudism either between the parent and child or vice-versa in order ask and answer questions and establish viewpoints. If nothing else, to better understand how one would feel by seeing nudism practiced around the house. Could it be practiced publicly around the family or should it be kept to private time, for example. In families that respect one another, sharing personal viewpoints and feelings help strengthen their bonds and make them more self-reliant and better functioning. Nudity is not something to be ashamed about or kept a secret. Talking about it with others prevents real-life nightmares from happening and may even strengthen friendships (at least show where trust should be placed). If nothing else, talking about positive nudism raises people’s awareness. I hope this has been entertaining and helpful. What do you dream about? Text by me.
