The Nile She wasn’t sure quite how she’d ended up like this. There had been some words, perhaps a drink or two, and suddenly here she was, bound and gagged and filled with the kind of desperate anticipation that inspires dreams with a little nightmare in them. She wriggled, and the light behind the camera winked at her. Conspiratorially. The cad. Sudden, that’s what this was. She couldn’t trace back every conversation, each light flirtation, the slight touch of his fingertips against her chin, as if leading her forward, leading her to… this? Sudden. Not slow, not a long time coming. Just here, right here, right now, and she was lost to it. It’s the lies we tell ourselves that are the easiest to fall for. She could become some willing participant, revel in this scene, but it was much more comfortable to believe she had been happily coerced, going along for the ride, and it was only now, when she was faced with the actuality of it all, that she wanted to stop the machinery, tap the sides, and step clear. Except, well, she wasn’t about to do that. She could click her fingers and everything would stop, as if she’d shattered the mirror and the illusion had gone with it. But those digits remained motionless, because she didn’t want this to end, not even slightly. She wanted to get off, yes, but not like that. He was tickling the back of her mind, and all she wanted to do was sneeze, one great big cathartic blowout that would expunge her of whatever it was that left her feeling clogged. So it had been sudden, and it would be sudden. It’s just, she’d been looking forward to it for the longest time. Thinking about it, dwelling on it. Anticipation. She shifted on the seat and the camera winked at her, conspiratorially. She felt the overwhelming urge to wink back. -- source link
