Comic time! The plotline of the original LoZ is pretty simple and tends to be cut-off from mainstream lore, so here is an attempt to tie-in current zelda lore with the first game. Making it all one, connected world.Notes:Zelda’s decision to split the Triforce is pretty monumental. It mirrors the Good King of Hyrule’s choice to hide the Triforce of courage, and also with the Triforce itself doing that by nature, like in OoT and WW.Since “The Legend of Zelda” is at the bottom of the downfall timeline, the events of OoT and the Triforce split may very well be pure myth (seeing how the Triforce of courage itself is a myth to the public, and that happened long after ALBW. But I believe Zelda is aware of the Triforce of courage, because Impa also knows of it.) Those myths and legends must be what gave Zelda the inspiration or guidance to break the Triforce into 8 to protect it.As for Link, I find it interesting that the Triforce never showed up on Link’s hand until 6 years after LoZ 1, and Impa was SHOCKED that he had it! Which means they didn’t actually think he was a hero chosen by the gods, but merely a boy who seems to meet the criteria of ‘hero’, and have a pure heart so he could touch the triforce without being consumed by it and consequently abandoning the mission. So when Zelda decided to shatter the Triforce and find the hero, it must have been a huge gamble. What if the gods never sent them a hero? They were just following the course of action that legends speak of when similar disasters happen relating to the Triforce. -- source link
