Delayed - Kathmandu Airport, NepalWaiting for our plane to depart from Kathmandu to Lukla.Per usual in the monsoon season, a deep fog will settle into Lukla making flying prohibitive for safety reasons. These propeller planes fly perilously close to the 4000m tall mountains, and with only eye-sight to guide the small margins of error, it makes sense to delay/cancel flights. Oh - and the runway at Lukla airport is an upward sloping ramp, so landing requires a special license and training. -- source link
