“You’re being an arrogant ass.” The alliteration didn’t do much to disguise the smile she tried to hide. His eyebrow was up, along with his curiosity, but he leaned against the doorway, that nonchalant, infuriating manner that he’d seemed to have cultivated over the last decade or so. Not that she’d known him for that long, but the movement looked lived-in, the kind of comfortable that only comes from repeat use. She glared, fighting every second the corner of her lips, and their desperate desire to curl and ruin everything. “Seriously, look at you. You couldn’t be preening harder if you tried.” The words bounced off him like foam darts. Pretend harm. “And yet here you are.” He waved an expansive hand, his eyes smiling where his mouth didn’t. “Naked, on my floor, with your clothes in another room.” Arms folded now, and he canted his head to one side. “Ask yourself exactly… how you got here, like this, with me." She sighed, the rogue strand of hair she’d been playing with falling from her hands. She’d roll her eyes but she was having too much fun looking at him, which only infuriated him further. How did he do that? How did he make it look like it was the plan, all along. "Just..!” Somehow she made the exclamation mark verbal, a sudden gush of air forced from her lungs. Her hands flopped ineffectually. “Eugh!" He stepped forward, pushing off the doorframe with what looked like willpower alone. His step was slow, meandering, something almost lazy, although she wouldn’t use that word. He stopped a foot away from her, and looked down. "Why don’t we try again?” That fucking smile. Those fucking lips. He reached down, offering his hand. “I hate you.” She said, her smile stealing all the power from the words. She took his hand and he pulled her up to standing, the other slipping around her waist and holding her against him. “I know. I’m still going to fuck you, though." That was when she rolled her eyes. -- source link
