Melbourne Cup Day is celebrated today in Australia. This is a photograph of the great racehorse, “Peter Pan” taken by Sam Hood, on 14 May 1935. According to the National Museum of Australia, Peter Pan was a handsome stallion “a rich chestnut with flaxen mane and tail” He is one of only five horses to have won two Melbourne cups: 1932 and 1934. “Some considered him a better horse than his contemporary Phar Lap, though the two never raced each other.” He won the 1934 Melbourne Cup against the odds, as it was a very muddy track and despite hating the rain he won by four lengths. -- source link
