littleeyesofpallas:I actually did these in adobe illustrator yeeeaaars ago. Like a whole other, now lost, laptop ago. I can’t remember if the manga was still in the Arrancar arc or if maybe we’d moved on to the Lost Agent arc by then. It might have even been in the hiatus between the two. Anyway I bumped into them a few pages deep into a google image search and figured it’d be cool if they existed someplace other than buried in a random thread in a 4chan archive from half a decade ago.I remember really wanting to keep them as on-model as possible but then realized halfway into it that there was no way to get any functional reference for Rose’s mask from the manga, and it infuriated me to no end. I was intending to use the line up as reference to try and discern some kind of pattern or thru-line to the style between all the designs and find a sort of guideline for OC masks, but honestly there’s a really sharp change in style from Ichigo, Shinji and Hiyori’s, and then everyone else’s.Mashiro and Kensei’s are both super minimalist and depart wildly from the skulls and stripes thing the early ones have going on.Love’s is actually more in line the other early ones than any of the other later masks.Hachi’s is close too but also just stands out as the only mask without eyeholes. His mask actually feels like its closer to Dondochakka’s and his is unusual for a hollow/arrancar.Rose also occupies a weird space in that it has more detail to it, unlike Mashiro, Kensei and Lisa’s, but the lack of teeth really breaks from the aesthetic the others have.Oh but also most regular hollow masks dont have a nose, because you know…. bones…. but Hachi and Love’s mask’s do, which isn’t immediately off putting, aesthetically, but is kind of weird in concept. -- source link
