There was a raucous bunch o’ kids at art-making day today at artworks as our exhibition continued. I visited the Studio of Gary Giordano today and I was again struck by how direct and gestural his work is. —Here, I contrast him with Buket Savci who controls our glances and attention down to the brushstroke. Of all of us in the show, Gary and Buket reside at the ends of the spectrum of style, gesture, surface, and light. The representation of flesh is very much at the forefront of all the paintings on view. Buket shows us the softness, warmth, and volume of representational figurative painting. Gary lets the surface and gesture and pure nature of the paint come through to let us into his visions, dreams, and familiarity of people in his life. Buket’s more realistic style lends itself to the story she is telling us, and the items she calls to our attention. Gary’s paintings push through our emotions to the point where we can become immersed into just the feeling of a person standing before you. See this exhibition, I think you’ll be intrigued by the desperate styles on view. #artworkstrenton #trentonartworks #garygiordanoptojects #buketsavci #elenachestnykh (at Artworks Trenton) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvX0byMl7GY/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=byui4no94puz -- source link
