Restoration of the Monarchs——————————&md
Restoration of the Monarchs————————————————Activate this card by targeting 1 monster in your GY with 2400 ATK/1000 DEF, or 2800 ATK/1000 DEF; Special Summon it in Defense Position, but negate its effects, also equip it with this card. When this card leaves the field, destroy that monster. The equipped monster can be treated as 2 Tributes for a Tribute Summon. You can only activate 1 “Restoration of the Monarchs” per turn.————————————————Can Be Found In: Flames of Destruction (FLOD-EN061)Starting with “Zaborg the Thunder Monarch” and releasing a new member each expansion, Monarchs gradually became the best option to work arround Tribute Summons. With disruptive effects activated upon arrival, Monarchs took the spot of many lead monsters in several Decks at the time. And although nowadays most strategies involves Special Summons and the Extra Deck, Monarchs remain a prevalent menace as an official archetype. With not only a big assortment of options to gather materials but also Anti-Meta effects to restrict common gamestyles, Monarchs keeps Tribute Summon alive in a time very few players will focus on one of the game’s oldest mechanics.“Restoration of the Monarchs” is another of the many recurring revival effects out there, but provides a big benefit for Decks focused on Tribute Summon. “Restoration of the Monarchs” will choose a monster in the Graveyard to be revived and be equipped to it, but the target must have 2400 or 2800 ATK and 1000 DEF. Along that condition the revived monster can only be brought in Defense Position and with its effects negated, as well if “Restoration” leaves the field by any reason the monster will be destroyed. However, the several limitations of “Restoration” is compensated by treating the revived monster as two tributes for any Tribute Summon, becoming of great importance to summon heavy monsters by little to no effort. While a card obviously designed towards Monarchs, “Restoration” might have some drawbacks but won’t take long to revive monsters and follow with some big Tribute Summons we could needed more investment otherwise. There’s a solid number of methods to prepare not only “Restoration” but also any monster that meets this card’s requeriments. This card has a variety of options to be ready at hand with perfect timing, with “Hidden Armory” searching it from our Deck or Graveyard, as well archetype cards like “Tenacity of the Monarchs” and “Pantheism of the Monarchs” looking for any Monarch Spell or Trap. Among the Monarchs themselves there’s “Angmarl the Fiendish Monarch”, which when Tribute Summoned will be able to look for “Restoration” by banishing a previous copy from our Graveyard. When comes to having a monster meeting this card’s conditions there’s no much to worry about, as if aren’t send to the Graveyard during the progress of the Duel by being defeated or even tributed for other summons, cards like “Trade-In” and “Armageddon Knight” can dispose of any monster no matter if is a Monarch or not.Overall “Restoration of the Monarchs” isn’t that different from any other revival effects out there, but its ability to treat its target as two tributes makes it stand out. Obviously the card is intended to work along Monarchs no matter how big their Tribute Summon can be, using those in the Graveyard to summon new ones and follow with their effects. This also bypasses the special condition of Mega Monarchs and other lead monsters like “Erebus the Underworld Monarch” to use a single Tribute Summoned monster for their arrival, assuring that they don’t need more than one monster no matter the situation on our field. However, while “Restoration” is intended to work along monsters of its archetype nothing stop us from using it for other big summons out there, ranging from Egyptian Gods or the effect of “Beast King Barbaros” once we bring a second monster, to even Extra Deck summons of any kind including “Colossal Fighter” as a potential target of this Spell Card.Despite restricted to a particular group of monsters with certain stats, “Restoration of the Monarchs” is of great value for any Deck needing assistance for its Tribute Summons. Although not a must have for Monarchs themselves given the many other options they obtained over the years, if the Deck has a big focus on Tribute Summons requiring two or more tributes it becomes of great help to open the first turns or even as a comeback tool. With also no limitations involving our Extra Deck, “Restoration of the Monarchs” is an interesting case where might become efficient in builds not involving its archetype or those more focused on Mega Monarchs.Personal Rating: B++ Revives a monster and treats it as two tributes+ Several big monsters to work with even if they don’t belong to the archetype+ Solid support- Several limitations including only able to revive monsters with specific stats- Monarchs have many other options to work with- Only useful for Decks focused on expensive Tribute Summons -- source link
