Audrey Hepburn was the granddaughter of a baron, the daughter of a nazi sympathizer, spent her teens doing ballet to secretly raise money for the dutch resistance against the nazis, and spent her post-film career as a goodwill ambassador of UNICEF, winning the presidential medal of freedom for her efforts. …and history remembers her as pretty. Most people don’t know, but during the war, she was caught by Nazis and was put on a Nazi truck, headed for who-knows-where. The truck broke down and she was the only one from the truck to escape. She literally slipped out while the soliders’ backs were turned and ran all the way home. Audrey Hepburn escaped the Nazis to be a star in some of my favorite movies. Also: When Americans rolled into her village as the war turned, and her family was starving, the soldiers gave them what they had: Hershey’s chocolate bars and cigarettes. She had an addiction to both her entire life. Her biography is an amazing read. And she was still pretty. -- source link
