minervacasterly:31st May 1533: On the eve of her coronation, Anne Boleyn emerged from the Tower of London, carried in a litter, and wearing glorious white, to make her way to Westminster Hall. As she made her way through the crowded streets of London, she was met with glorious pageantry, one of which included a children’s choir singing an anthem in English and French. Anne Boleyn made no secret of her French symp…athies, this no doubt pleased her. Another pageant featured the Three Graces, a classic imagery which invoked past kings and queens and lauded the queen-to-be for her virtues. The most prominent perhaps (for Anne) must’ve been the one with a white falcon being crowned by an angel. As she watched this imagery, a child stepped forward to recite a beautiful poem honoring Anne Boleyn’s lineage. After he finished, another child stepped forward to declare in a triumphant voice: “Honor and grace be unto our Queen Anne”.Anne’s ladies were also dressed for the occasion, wearing gowns of crimson velvet. Her cousins, aunts and other female relations rode in four carriages draped in gold and white. Amongst all this commotion, the people still remained curious, expecting to see more of this woman whom Henry had moved heaven and earth to marry. For her part, Anne must have been excited to see all the people greeting and cheering for her after witnessing the amazing spectacle. As the ceremonies ended, she withdrew to the Tower to rest. The following day she would be crowned Queen of England. Image: Claire Foy as Anne Boleyn in “Wolf Hall” -- source link
