featherwurm: The Dryad’s Forest: It is mistakenly believed that Dryads are bound to a tree or forest in particular. While empathic to their own area, Dryads may move freely at any time if so desired. Most adult dryads who have settled into an area do generally keep their claim for life. However, environmental pressure, stress, injury, or illness may necessitate a dryad move to a new location. While their tree species will not change (as it is set in childhood) Dryads can prove to be surprisingly adaptable. While their origins are muddled, a Dryad’s intended purpose is clear. Dryads are stewards of the wild. In their best ideal, they assist with the care of their chosen home, usually a territory of several dozen acres (or more.) They ensure that their lands are healthy and fit, and that use of them (if they will allow it) remains fair and sustainable. To this end they are equipped with an incredible sense of empathy, and what can be considered nearly if not completely telepathic abilities that extend to all living things.
