howardhawkshollywoodannex: Tunes of Glory (1960) is one of the New York Times 1,000 Best Films.Critic Leslie Halliwelll gave the film two stars out of four and wrote “WIntry barracks melodrama, finely acted and well made with memorable confrontation scenes compensating for a somewhat underdeveloped script.”My rating - above averageThe film was directed by Ronald Neame, who was born in London and had 26 director credits from 1947 to a 1990 short. His other notable films are I Could Go On Singing with Judy Garland (1962), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and The Poseidon Adventure. Ronald began his film career as a cinematographer, with 47 credits from 1933 to 1945. His last such credit was for David Lean’s technicolor Blithe Spirit (1945). Tunes of Glory premiered Sep 4, 1960 in Venice, Italy, Dec 1 in London, and Dec 20 in the USA. It is an honorable mention to my best 1,001 movies. -- source link
