antifainternational: gdanskcityofficial: ready-to-fight: Death to Fascism “If fascism could be defeated in debate, I assure you that it would never have happened, neither in Germany, nor in Italy, nor anywhere else.” – Frank Frison, Holocaust survivor Sound advice from one of the members of the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion - Canadian antifa volunteers that fought against the fascists in the Spanish Civil War. I must take exception. The Italian Communist Party went to great lengths to penetrate fascist mass organizations in the 1930s. Why? Because ‘that was where the masses were.’ And they had important successes in drawing people away from fascism. As a labor organizer, I learned that it is ONLY the Boss, the Capitalist, who has an intrinsic interest in cutting off dialogue. They knock themselves out trying to prevent workers from dialoging. Why, as a revolutionary, should I aid and abet that?True, it sounds VERY revolutionary to say: 'FIGHT!’ But lets remember what Gramsci - who led the Italian industrial workingclass in six days of hand-to-hand combat against the Italian state - had to say: that the true revolutionary is not he who pronounces flaming phrases, but rather he who figures out how to organizes production.Well: EVERY rightwinger brought over, on this or that terrain of struggle, weakens fascism. EVERY rightwinger who, for any reason, decides to 'sit this one out’ WEAKENS fascism.Fascism did not come to Germany because the masses bought into its ideology. Fascism came to Germany 1. because of the bitter animosity between Communists and Social Democrats, that prevented them unifying against the fascist threat (ditto for Italy). 2. because the bourgeoisie of not just Germany, but of the US and Britain, were determined to kill off the workingclass’s organizations, and funded Hitler and Mussolini. Finally, there are MANY brands of 'antifascism’. In WWII, even some extreme rightwingers were 'antifascist’. And every group had its own analysis of what fascism is, where it is rooted, what should be done about it. The fact that one person says, 'kill them all’ does not mean they speak for 'antifascism’. As the son of an antifascist who shed his blood in battle against the Third Reich, I can attest to that. -- source link
