Bridgeport University’s Ancient Civilizations Society has invited Stephanie to give a talk on Al Simharan Music and Musical Instruments of the Second Millennium B.C, and this is where Liam is tonight, seated at the back of the packed and over-heated auditorium, his armpits beginning to feel clammy and his head to ache. Stephanie speaks with passion and incisiveness, but Liam thinks that her looks are so distracting that she could probably be speaking complete gibberish and nobody would be any the wiser.“We now know that by the end of the Second Millenium B.C there existed standardized tuning procedures that operated within a heptatonic, diatonic system consisting of seven different and interrelated scales,” says Stephanie, pausing to allow the audience to properly digest this mind-blowing information. Liam’s phone buzzes discreetly in his shirt pocket; it is a notification from The Poetry Forum. ‘Shygirl3000’, aka Saffron, is trying to get in touch with him. Liam breathes a few words of thanks to the Universe and slips out of his seat and through a side door, the cool night air instantly chasing away the pain in his temples. He calls Saffron’s number. She answers on the third ring.“Hello,” he says. “What’s up?” “What’s my favourite colour?” she says. “And what’s my favourite band?” -- source link
