The Polish exiled government in London. From 1940, following the Fall of France, the exiled government fled to London, and remained in the United Kingdom until its dissolution in 1990. After the rigged elections of post war Poland, the country became a communist puppet state of the Soviet Union. The exiled government claimed that if the elections were free and fair they would have won by a landslide. They continued to exist in London where they were a figurehead of the Polish resistance to the Soviet Union in Poland and in the United Kingdom where they commanded the loyalty of about 150,000 Polish veterans and their descendants living in Britain. The Republic of Ireland, Francoist Spain and the Vatican City (until 1979) were the last countries to recognize the Government in Exile over the communist government. It remained in existence until the end of Communist rule in Poland in 1990, when it returned to Poland and formally passed on its responsibilities to the new government. -- source link
