tumbleweedtales: There’s something quietly unsettling about the fire-scorched ruins of the abandoned Mayhew lodge at the bottom of Arizona’s Oak Creek Canyon. So much of Arizona is desert, arid grassland, rugged rocks–and then you descend into this canyon and find what looks like an overgrown castle in an enchanted realm. Something out of a dusty old storybook, a lush kingdom of shadow and stone, asleep for a century. The ivy intertwines with the pines, and birds flit through the hollow spaces. It doesn’t seem real, like something from a dream in a hundred-year sleep. -- source link
