laelish: (Image Description under the cut) At long last the sequel to this comic is done! Timeline-wise this takes place shortly after Ezra joined Din and Luke at the school, and is before the three of them got together. By the end of the comic Ezra picks up on the fact that they aren’t just visiting the burned section of forest to help the kid, and starts to see how good Din and Luke are for each other. This comic happens like a week later. I really went into this believing that a nine-panel comic featuring a burned down section of a forest wouldn’t absolutely obliterate me. It took some time to get the background to a point I was okay with. Which is why you’re getting this two months later. I always intended the red trees in the valley near the TKT school to be pyrophyric. There are trees in the Southeastern US that I based them on - the long-leaf pine - which require fire to grow. When the tree is still small everything gets burned away and the fire all around it triggers it to grow. It armors itself in fireproof bark and keeps its pine needles out of reach of the flames. But without the fire it would never grow to its full height. I see some parallels between that and these three characters. Keep reading -- source link
