The Rise of the Shield HeroStreaming on Crunchyroll.I knew people were mad at this one before going in, but I didn’t know why.Now I’m mad at it too! Wonderful how that works.Anyway, this starts out as your typical Isekai. Otaku dude is browsing the library for a new LN, but then gets sucked into another world while flipping through a book. Turns out he’s now one of four Chosen Ones brought from another world to save this one. Then bad stuff happens and he becomes an Angry Boy. We’ll get there.At first, I was angry at this series for the reasons of - hey this actually has some interesting twists on the genre and it’s so obviously going to waste them! Having four people teleported into this world was pretty neat. The fact that they all come from different parallel universes of our modern world was pretty cool too. But the differences between those worlds were very superficial and pointless. It didn’t seem to matter much. Having four different dudes teleported from four very VERY different Japans could have been neat!Then I was mad about the game menu systems in a world that came from a book. (though I guess that’s explained away by the fact that the other three guys were teleported here by games. But why can’t mr. shield have a more book friendly interface? huh? HUH?)Then the real reason everyone is mad at this show rolls on down. SPOILERS Female character who decided to side with poor, useless, shield hero turned out to be backstabbing him, claims he tried to sexually assault him, steals all his stuff, and turns the entire kingdom against him. And thus Angry Boy is born and the true story of one scorned man’s Rise to become the Shield Hero born alongside him.Huh. I’m not really going to go into why that sort of plotline is incredibly damaging, but it is! This show had nothing going for it before it reached that point, and now I basically don’t want to touch it ever again.The end.Will I watch Episode 2? Goodbye, Shield Hero. Goodbye. -- source link
