Grey Towers, Milford, Pennsylvania, Summer Home of Gifford Pinchot, 2004.Although he was a Republican, Pinchot, who served as the first chief of the United States Forest Service, was a noted early proponent of conservation and coined the term “conservation ethic.” He also served as governor of Pennsylvania. One wonders what he would make of the party that has evolved from his time to today with its only real goal to “drill, baby, drill” (or in the case of national forests, privatize and then cut, baby, cut). The rather charming, and for its owner’s wealth and prestige, fairly modest estate is now a national historical site and used for conservation training programs. -- source link
