uwmspeccoll:Wood Engraving WednesdayAGNES MILLER PARKERScottish wood engraver, illustrator, and painter Agnes Miller Parker (1895-1980) illustrated five books by Thomas Hardy for the Limited Editions Club (LEC) from 1942 to 1969 (of which we hold all but one). This week we present examples of Miller Parker’s black and white and color wood engravings for the 1956 LEC production of Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles, printed at the George Grady Press in New York in an edition of 1500 copies signed by the artist. Miller Parker produces 24 black and white wood engravings and seven, multicolor, double-page landscape engravings which the artist sketched directly from the Wessex countryside depicted in the novel.Click on the images to view the captions.View other posts with wood engravings by Agnes Miller Parker.View other posts on productions of the Limited Editions Club.View other works by women wood engravers.
