He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1954 for his performance in Roman Holiday and in 1973 for The Heartbreak Kid. Other well-known screen roles of his include Bing Edwards in the Brother Rat films, traveling salesman Ali Hakim in Oklahoma! and the sadistic prison warden in The Longest Yard. He is best remembered for his role of lawyer-turned-farmer ‘Oliver Wendell Douglas’ on the comedy series Green Acres. He died of pneumonia at his home at the age of 99. A classic hunk of a man. Like everyone, I remember him from the TV show Green Acres, but he didn’t catch my fancy until I saw the movie Dreamscape. Apparently, he didn’t mind taking his shirt off for a role which is a plus for me. And with a hairy body like that, I don’t blame him. He was a remarkable man a great singer too. -- source link
