sailorgojirarex1997: Dinovember Day 27. I know this is late. I’ve just been busy trying to keep up with school, so it’s been hard to get this and some of the others out on time. Anyway, it’s here now. Sexual dimorphism in Diplodocus longus. A young male flashes the colors of his dewlap sac and waves his brightly-colored tail in a mating display. Some females eye watch his display intently. If one of them is allured enough in his courting, she’ll pair up with him. Rather than basing these on a specific modern animal, I just took a few references from modern species and mostly went with my own vision. The display the male Diplodocus is performing here is based on those of certain modern dinosaurs like frigate birds, the Greater Sage-Grouse and the Temminck’s tragopan. I also gave the male longer spines than the females as an added display feature. The “crest” of spines on the head was based on those from the Apatosaurus in Ted Rechlin’s graphic novel Jurassic. Additionally, I gave both sexes inflatable nasal sacs for communication and display. -- source link
