behoshe: rojdolma:Details of Herodias, 1843 by Paul Delaroche what struck me about this portrait is that this woman looks almost exactly like my grandmother. and that is what has, for centuries, captivated us about art. we don’t know the impact our creations have on those who view them. they see the faces of those they know and love in the works of people who lived entirely different lives in entirely different times. while making this piece, delaroche didn’t know that, a century or so later, a teenage girl living in pakistan would look at it, remember her deceased grandmother, and feel the grief of losing her anew. this is why we make art. so that someone, somewhere, looks at it and feels pressure on an old bruise. -- source link
