siryouarebeingmocked: self-winding:siryouarebeingmocked:alaija:cheshireinthemiddle:How radfems are defending Amber Heard. My experience has been that either the person being referred to was mentally ill, or if they were male they would have been arrested and subject to a restraining order.Which you find out if you listen to what else the guy has to say. This is literally “she was asking for it”, but gender swapped, and for abuse. If someone just says “he/she was crazy” or for that matter “he/she was abusive” I’m going to be asking for specifics because that could mean almost anything. Some people will use words like “crazy” or “abusive” if the other person just raises their voice during an argument. But yeah some of the takes I’ve heard defending Amber Heard have been extremely sketchy and blatant abuse apologism. Things like “even if she hit him, it wasn’t abuse because abuse is about power and she had less power,” (which is a bizarre take considering that she’s also a rich and well-known actor) along with a lot of tacit assumptions that of course she must have been the primary victim and of course he must have been the primary abuser because he’s a man.I have also seen some genuinely misogynistic takes where people will use Amber Heard as an excuse to make generalizations about “crazy women.” But “some of the backlash against Heard is motivated by misogyny” and “Heard is, in fact, an abuser” are compatible takes. I don’t think generalizations about crazy women, specifically, are necessarily sexist.Especially since I remember that stand-up routine that said “for men, ‘she was crazy’ is a socially acceptable way of saying ‘abuser’.”> Things like “even if she hit him, it wasn’t abuse because abuse is about power and she had less power,” (which is a bizarre take considering that she’s also a rich and well-known actor) It’s funny how those kind of thoughts always ignore the fact that a woman usually has more power if she claims abuse. If the guy is ostensibly more powerful than her, it works even better. -- source link
