Glorund sets forth to seek Turinby J. R. R. Tolkien, September 1927Glorund (later Glaurung) is described in The Book of Lost Tales as a “great worm,” with “scales of polished bronze,” and “breath a mingled fire and smoke”, who destroys the dwellings of the Rodothlim (fugitive Noldorin elves).  He gathers their wealth into a hoard and takes their home as his lair.The story was changed slightly for the book ‘The Children of Hurin.’The painting was done to illustrate The Silmarillion. -- source link
