The Volga Maniac is the name given to an unidentified serial killer who brutally murdered 32 elderly women between 2011 and 2012. This Russian serial killer struck in several cities, including Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Izhevsk, Perm, Ufa, Samara and Ulyanovsk. In the media, he is described to be between the ages of 20 and 35 years old, around 175 centimetres tall, slim-build with a non-Slavic appearance. A video from a surveillance camera from one of the crime scenes shows the alleged killer in a dark jacket with a hood, black trousers and sports shoes. The ages of the victims vary from 75 to 90 years old and almost all of the victims lived in apartment buildings along the Volga River. It is assumed that the killer is a native of Tatarstan, and, most likely, during his reign of terror, he studied not far from Kazan. The way in which the killer acted was that he pretended to be an official of the Russian government to his victims, most likely in social services. All of his victims were strangled and then robbed. However, despite frequent robbery, investigators do not believe that money was the main motive for the killer. Investigators do not exclude that the person who is responsible for these crimes may be in prison, or may no longer be alive. -- source link
