On 8 December, 1987, 16-year-old schoolgirl Evelyne Boucher disappeared a few metres from her home in Villeneuve-les-Avignon, France. Her mysterious disappearance turned into a murder investigation when her slain naked corpse was found by local hunters. She had been raped, strangled, and shot in the head. DNA was found on Evelyne’s body, however, a match could not be made at that time and the case went cold. Eighteen years later in 2004, 53-year-old firefighter, Robert Greiner, from Avignon went on a trip with his family to Pont du Gard. However, the trip would be short-lived when he got into an altercation with another man and was arrested for assault. Police took DNA samples from Robert to store in the database. Two years later, in 2006, Robert was arrested and charged with the murder of 16-year-old Evelyne after his DNA matched the DNA found on her corpse. In April, 2008, 55-year-old Robert Greiner was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of Evelyne Boucher. -- source link
