Welcome to the first book review for The Prepper Library Series!Title: The Survival HandbookThis is one of the very first survival books I started off with. As you guys can see it is filled with colorful pictures and step by step how to’s. Literally every single page looks like the above examples. The book breaks everything down into very easy to follow instructions. For that reason I believe that, it is a great starter book for anyone looking to get into survival/bushcrafting. It is also great for those who wish to get more involved in the outdoors with hiking and camping. The Survival Handbook is divided into seven sections, 1) Before you go 2) On the trail 3) Camp craft 4) Taking shelter 5) Water and Food 6) In an Emergency 7) First Aid. The book covers the physical and mental preparations one should make when heading out into the wild. It also goes into brief explanations of the different types of climates (six are spoken of in the book). There is a guide on how to pick the right gear and putting together your kit. You will learn basic navigation techniques and how to find your way through the use of maps, landmarks, and natural navigation (the stars and the sun). Something cool the book does, is list many techniques such as building a shelter, starting a fire, and finding water, under the appropriate climates for the method involved. You will find some hunting and fishing information, as well as how to prepare the meat and cook it. Sometimes you don’t have to be out in the wilderness to encounter a survival situation, you could be at home in a city too. What happens if you are in the middle of a forest fire, a hurricane or a tornado? The Survival Handbook also discusses situations that occur due to extreme weather, and what to do. No matter if you are in a city during extreme weather or out in the middle of nowhere, first aid is always something that comes in handy. The last chapter is devoted to basic first aid, covering the most common injuries: weather exposure, bleeding, bites and stings, broken bones, shock, breathing difficulties etc. The appendix covers wild foods, both plants and animals. There is even a section for poisonous plants, and dangerous animals to watch out for. All in all, I have loved having this book as part of my library. Length of book: 320 pages Pros: Great for a beginner. Someone with no experience can pick up the book and follow along with the explanations and step by step guides. Extremely colorful and filled with many diagrams, charts and illustrations. The text layout is easy to ready and attention grabbing. Teaches you basic skills to keep you alive in a survival situation. Covers many topics and how to survive based on climate.Cons: The section on plant identification is written as a chart, with no pictures. For a book that is heavy with drawings, one would expect the same for the section on plants. Perhaps the book is a little too basic for those who are more advanced in their skill set. Recommended Audience: Beginners, people who learn better with visual aids, people who just want to add a useful survival book to their library. If you guys want to add this to your prepper library, you guys can get it from HERE.Stay tuned for the next book in the series! -- source link
