It’s hard, being a woman in a man’s world. It’s not fair but that’s the way it is. You have to be better than the men just to be considered an equal, work twice as hard for less pay. You can have a brilliant mind and people will still critique your appearance. The reality of our world is that the deck is stacked against you. That men have made it so that competing with them means you have to worry about a hundred different things, most of which they never have to worry about themselves. The good news is, there’s an easy out. The bimbo path, the slut path, the whore path, all different names for the same thing. When you stop competing with the men and start serving them instead, life gets so much simpler. They’ve designed it that way.Take this path and you don’t have to worry about your education. You don’t have to worry about coming across well in business meetings, about whether reporting that sexual harassment will just make things work, about negotiating for that raise or fighting for promotion. All you’ll have to worry about is how men see you.Don’t get me wrong, that won’t be easy either. You’ll need to keep up your appearance - that’s fitness, fashion, makeup, hair. And you’ll need to get the right attitude, make sure you’ve got that good personality. A body is important, but an available and easygoing personality can turn a one-night stand into a relationship. This path is easier but it’s not easy.Thing is, though, if you take the first path, if you try to compete with the men… well, you’ll still have to worry about how men see you. And you’ll have all those other things to worry about too. I have nothing but respect for those women who choose the first path, and even more respect for those who succeed at it. But that takes a lot of hard work and dedication and sacrifice. It’s not for everyone. This isn’t the way the world should be, but we have to deal with the world the way it is. And I truly believe there’s a bright future ahead for our granddaughters, that they can be born into a world where they aren’t so disadvantaged, where they’re taken seriously, where they don’t have all these obstacles. But you and I, we won’t live to see that world. The world has given you two choices. And really, isn’t making your own choices what feminism is all about? -- source link
