houjicha: agallimaufryofoddments:This is a follow-up to my previous post. I’d convinced myself it would be best to wait until morning to post scans, but actually it’s probably best if I get these scans out ASAP no matter the unreasonable hour; I’ve spent too much time dwelling on them already. At some point last month or in April, I learned via a JP Tweet that the KADOKAWA Light Novel EXPO 2020 Official Memorial Book would be including two Ryohgo Narita stories; these turned out to be a Durarara!! x Baccano! story, and a Baccano! 193X story. This Book, apparently, was in limited supply and would only be available until [xyz] day―which was perhaps 2 or 3 days in the future. I beseeched my proxy, and luckily they came through…Yadda ya. The book arrived on June 8, in a package that proceeded to weather a thunderstorm on our stoop. The package was soaking wet, but the book survived thanks to the power of plastic and plastic bubble-wrap. My cursory skimming (alongside kanji lookups and slight katakana refreshing) of the Drrr!! x Baccano! story has turned up “full face / full face helmet” / “smartphone” / NYC / “Ennis” / Celty…tourism / social distancing / Nebula ―all this has given me the impression the story involves Celty visiting NYC, where people possibly think her “full face helmet” is proactive pandemic protection…aka Celty’s alive in 2020, you heard my unsubstantiated, unqualified conclusion here, folks. (Ennis or someone else references I&M too?)Baccano! 193X is Nice-centric; Melody, Jo(h)n, Chané, Miria, etc. names mentioned. The Drrr!! x B! crossover illustration of Celty isn’t new, by the way; it appeared in the RPG Bunko Drrr!! x B! crossover story previously, and was featured on the Celty Joker card in the playing card deck that accompanied the first B! audio drama boxset. The Nice Holystone illustration, however, is clearly a new illustration Enami produced just for this story (notice the sakura blossom etched into her eyepatch), and it’s absolutely goddamn gorgeous; it is giving me unnecessarily high expectations of Vol. 23′s art; please, Dengeki Bunko, let Enami go all out for whatever the hell ends up in that volume. I’ve missed Enami’s Narita art. I really hope this scan does the art justice, or, at least, that I can produce a scan worthy of it later.I apologize in advance for the potential quality defects in the above scans. I attempted multiple scans (both JPGs and PDFs, also scans of the TOC, etc.), but the time I’ve spent so far is time I actually can’t justifiably spend right now (too busy screwing up my thesis)―er, well, I hope these suffice for now, at minimum in terms of readability, and I can try to share the PDFs and other image scans if necessary / when it’s not doomsday.@sawagiacademy pinging you in light of previous post; @kazinha-726, you may be interested in these as well regardless of translation? Oh my god oh my god oh my GODDDDDD I hope it’s ok if I post a summary!!Celty goes to NYC to deliver something from Shingen to Nebula (mid-pandemic), but the directions are coded so she can’t find it. She runs into Ennis (who is wearing a mask), who understands Japanese and agrees to help her. Celty is interested in her because she seems unusually far from death. They sit in Alveare (at an appropriate distance), and Ennis asks about her helmet. (She also notices that Celty isn’t breathing.) Celty says it’s for social distancing, and Ennis says that Isaac and Miria got astronaut helmets for their masks. Celty asks if they’re a couple and Ennis says they’re not actually sure what their relationship is, just that they’re very close. Celty thinks it’s like her and Shinra, and Ennis talks a bit about how the secret to happiness is making good memories, how she’s grateful for people who’ve brought her good memories and how she wants to give them to others. Then they go to the Nebula headquarters together, find some vampires, and there’s a whole big fight, but that’s another story. The girls from Jacuzzi’s gang, plus Chane and Miria are in Washington DC to look at the cherry trees, but they’ve just missed the blooms. Melody and Miria share a bunch of sakura facts (how they came from Japan, how pollen contains ephedrine, how the leaves can be poisonous (Miria says that’s why you’re not supposed to look at them), and then they get attacked, because the real reason they’re here is because they’re in a fight with another gang trying to help the guys get away. When Nice throws her bombs, it lights up the petals on the river and the ground, and Miria says they got to see the cherry blossoms after all. They decide to come back next year. -- source link
