This week, we met with Robert Hoggle, a friendly local site surveyor! He met us at our site property at 8 am prompt and led us on a treasure hunt for the stakes that mark the property edges. With one surveying magnetic locator, one data collector, a tall robotic total station, and four groggy teammates, we got to surveying. Robert patiently guided us through the process as we found our targets - points marking the boundaries of the property. We cross referenced these coordinates with the distances set in an old deed and found that we were right on track! It was a fascinating afternoon of wading through words such as “real time kinematic global positioning systems.” But we aren’t finished yet!The next step of our site survey is sending in our logged geo-points to an entity that can translate them into a perfectly accurate .dwg file. Once that is complete, our team will know our exact property lines and our buildable area. This, of course, will influence the location and orientation that our project can assume on the site. Stay tuned! We’re planning on hitting the ground running after Thanksgiving to burn some cals. -- source link
