gffa:gffa:#I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT VADER’S BITCHY REVENGE FANTASY FROM THE 2015 COMIC SET POST-A NEW HOPE#AND HOW IT INTERSECTS WITH EPISODE THREE OF OBI-WAN KENOBI#HOW ‘YOU SHOULD HAVE KILLED ME WHEN YOU HAD THE CHANCE’#AND ‘IF YOU LOVED ME OBI-WAN YOU WOULD HAVE KILLED ME’#CO-EXIST WITHIN VADER HOW BOTH OF THESE ARE TRUE OF HIM#HOW HE FURIOUS HATEFULLY WANTS OBI-WAN TO SUFFER#HOW HIS HATE AND HIS RAGE REFUSE TO LET HIM DIE#BUT THAT ALSO SOME PART OF HIM WISHES THAT HE HAD DIED#THAT HE CAN NEVER ALLOW HIMSELF TO DIE BUT HE STILL WISHES OBI-WAN HAD#THAT HE DOESN’T SEE THAT OBI-WAN DID LOVE HIM AND THAT’S WHY HE COULDN’T KILL HIM#OBI-WAN COULD NOT BRING HIMSELF TO DO IT BECAUSE HE LOVED ANAKIN TOO MUCH#BUT VADER CAN’T SEE IT THAT WAY IT HAS TO BE OBI-WAN’S FAULT#AND BECAUSE IT’S OBI-WAN’S FAULT HE HAS TO MAKE OBI-WAN SUFFER#EVEN IN HIS OWN FANTASY VADER STILL CAN’T LET GO OF  BOTH THESE THINGS#HE CAN’T LET GO OF HIS WISH FOR DEATH (AND HIS OWN LOVE FOR OBI-WAN BURNT TO ASH)#AND HE CAN’T LET GO OF HIS NEED TO HURT OBI-WAN BECAUSE HE WAS HURT#HE’S TRAPPED BETWEEN THESE TWO THINGS IN A PRISON HE REFUSES TO STEP OUT OF #juxtaposing these also highlights#the way in which vader might desire obi-wan to react to him#if what he wants from a rematch is that obi-wan try and kill him#so that he might be fully justified in striking him down#then what he got in their first reunion is the opposite#if you measure love in hate#and hope blow for blow to be returned#then how would it feel to meet so little resistance? (via @sethnakht)Just casually having yet another gut punch moment of Anakin defining love through willingness to hate.  That he probably cannot even fathom how Obi-Wan doesn’t hate him back in equal measure, in the exact same way, that he didn’t spend the last 10 years obsessively training to defeat Vader.That Vader wants a rematch full of hate and rage, wants Obi-Wan to hate him the same way he hates Obi-Wan, because it’s miserable being in one-sided hate and Vader cannot conceive–cannot accept–that Obi-Wan would love him still.  Because it pokes holes in everything that props him up, that if Obi-Wan still loved him, then there was a path back to the light, but there can’t be a path back, Anakin could never stand the way Obi-Wan would look at him, knowing the things he’d done, never able to erase the choices he’d made, so the only way Obi-Wan is allowed to love him is to hate him as much as Anakin hates Obi-Wan.Torturing Obi-Wan is about making him hurt, no matter what Obi-Wan feels about him, but also Vader has been obsessed with him for ten years.  Will continue to be obsessed with him until they meet on the Death Star again.  Will continue to bring up Obi-Wan in many conversations even after he kills Obi-Wan.  He cannot tolerate this relationship being one-sided, Obi-Wan has to hate him back, because it’s the only way Vader can get any satisfaction out of this.And, maybe, in some way, if Obi-Wan hates him back, then he really did love him, and maybe then Vader won’t be completely alone in the galaxy, because otherwise at this point he has nothing.  Sidious is his Master, but has repeatedly shown he doesn’t care about Vader, will throw him to the wolves at every opportunity.  The Inquisitors are only ever as loyal as it suits their ambition.  The people he loved are ones who would always see the horrible things he’d done, they could never forget those things.So all he has left is to make Obi-Wan join him in his suffering, that’s the only way he won’t be alone. -- source link
