Ever since starting Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book Gathering Moss, I’ve gained a new appreciation for the green stuff that grows on rocks, stones, and walls. Apparently, there are around 22,000 species of mosses - and while they might not be as known or appreciated as flowers or other plants, they retain a simple beauty all on their own. ‘Looking at mosses adds a depth and intimacy to knowing the forest,’ Robin writes. ‘Intimacy gives us a different way if seeing, when visual acuity is not enough.’ I hope you’re inspired (as I have been) to look at moss with a little bit more love, and if you wanna learn more I highly recommend this read. If you’ve read it already, what are your takeaways?
