“The New York Times did a piece in 2019 entitled ‘What Do Gen Z Shoppers Want? A Cute, Cheap Outfit That Looks Great on Instagram’ in which they interviewed several teenagers about their shopping habits. The takeaway for me was that teenagers really don’t want to be seen wearing the same item of clothing twice on Instagram. You see the problem here? Our world has created a society with messaging that wearing the same thing twice isn’t cool” (Consumed, @ajabarber). Rounding out the year with this quote ^^ on my mind as I prepare to kick off my Buy Nothing challenge I know I’m only one person and there’s only so much I can ~influence~, but if there’s one thing I can do, it’s show y’all that it’s 100000% okay and normal to wear the same outfit or item of clothing on your IG feed. Hell if you look back you’ll see my favorite pair of black pants and long sleeve black bodysuit at least five times already (and guess what! There’s more to come!). On Jan 1 I’ll be announcing my personal rules (and a hashtag to follow along!) for the Buy Nothing challenge, so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, keep rewearing and loving the clothing you already own and shoutout to my friend @thatcurlytop for creating #RewearThat which has more great closet-loving inspo ✨ [image description: shot of an open book featuring the above quote on white fabric.
