Raise your hand if over the course of the pandemic you’ve heard something along the lines of: ‘I’m not just gonna take X/Y/Z COVID precaution because I’m not operating out of fear.’ I’d like to argue that, while it’s totally valid to be operating out of fear right now, many of us are operating out of *care*. Care for the elderly - in America alone, 1 out of every 100 elderly Americans have died from COVID. Care for healthcare workers - who have been at it for almost two years now and have been busting their asses to keep as many of us alive as possible. Through PPE shortages, staff shortages, and hospital room shortages, they’ve continued to look out for us. Care for disabled folks + the immunocompromised - who are particularly susceptible to the virus, or who might not be getting the care they need because of how thinly stretched the healthcare system is right now. Care for essential workers - who have had to keep working all throughout this pandemic, putting their health on the line so we can get groceries, order delivery, and more. There are so many people who’ve been affected by this virus, we owe it to them and their families to do our part. Cause if the government isn’t going to start caring enough about our health to take it seriously, we’re gonna have to do it ourselves. Hope y’all are staying safe, and sending everyone some love today [image description: top down view of Sabs’ white sneakers on a crunchy, autumn leaf-filled ground.] (at Brooklyn, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CX3mzINu4ck/?utm_medium=tumblr -- source link
