I recently learned that my 94 year old WWII Vet neighbor, who has known me since I was a baby, is going to be moving away to live with family soon. While I’m sad to see him go, I’m grateful that I’ve gotten the chance to know him for so long and that I get to say goodbye. As a going away present, I painted this picture of the house he’s lived in since the 80s. My dad’s first memory of him when we moved in was him tending to his roses, and I made sure to include those and all of the other flowers that I could remember from his yard. Irises, lilacs, daffodils, red-hot-pokers, and the purple ones on the vine that are everywhere in the springtime. He never had a pet as long as I can remember, but the neighbor cat visits him on his porch and they enjoy the warm afternoons together.I hope my painting can bring him back when he needs it. -- source link
