In order to appease her, a man named Calchas suggested that they sacrifice Agamemnon’s daughter Iphigenia. After some consideration, they went through with the act, killing her. Later versions of the myth say that Artemis intervened and before Iphigenia could be slain, she placed a deer, or a goat, in the girl’s place and whisked her away to Taurica, which is today known as the Crimean Peninsula, to become a priestess of hers. -- source link
