Nudist Friendly Societies Public, casual nudity should be more than a right, it should be encouraged. Public nudity is full of benefits ranging from society at large to the individual. Here are a few. For society, seeing normal, everyday people without clothing reminds them that they don’t have to have air brushed, perfect bodies the mainstream media promotes. It removes the labels and stigmas clothing puts on us and allows people to be who they are, not what others want them to be. Talk about taking the pressure off. Public nudity also shows people in a safe environment. Would anyone get undressed in a dangerous place? Seeing others nude gives people confidence in their surroundings. Being confident about where we are allows us to trust each other more.  Confidence through nudity isn’t only helpful to society, but extends to the individual. For adults, the removal of body shame and self-repression helps focus the blame on the would-be oppressors. For example, cat-calls against others should never be tolerated, but when the ones being oppressed fully understand what’s happening to them isn’t right, have the confidence in themselves to stand against it, and know society will protect them, then that sort of oppression won’t last for long. For children, seeing causal nudity will help them understand the changes their body will go through as they grow. It will help remove the uncertainty they may feel about themselves and help bolster their self-image against taunts and teasing. It may also help socialize and reduce shyness. In the end, if someone has a problem with nudity, it’s their problem, not the nudist’s. That’s how it should be. And if nudity is okay for TV, movies, and as an art form, why isn’t it allowed in everyday life? It’s not like we can escape who we are. Text by me.
