maddiviner: Hello everyone. This article is the third in my series on energy work and direct, tool-free magick. Thus far, I’ve covered sensing energy and grounding. Today, we’ll be talking about centering your personal energy. As usual, the method I give here is just how I, personally, do it. There’s no absolutely wrong or right way to center yourself, as long as it gets the job done!Centering generally follows grounding for most of us. While grounding gets rid of excess energy, centering is the act of tidying that which remains. It’s much like organizing a deck of cards into the proper order, or arranging pieces on a chess board prior to the game beginning.Centering allows our natural systems of energy to reorganize into a more advantageous form. The goal is not stillness, though. Energy always fluctuates and moves - that is its nature. It would be impossible for a living person to completely silence the energetic flow within them. Thus, the energy remains in motion, but in a more uniform and focused way. This provides clarity, and makes you more efficient, especially in a magical context.Centering requires a focal point. The focal point is the center of the subtle body, but its exact location varies from person to person. It is almost always in a part of the torso, though. Its position can change throughout your lifetime, as well. In my early twenties, I tended to center around the area where my heart is located, but this changed a few years ago. I usually find it most comfortable nowadays to center in my stomach. Discovering your center is an intuitive process. If you’ve begun sensing energy, you’ll notice that your internal energy gravitates towards a certain area - this is the center. Experiment until you find a center that feels most comfortable to you.To center yourself, begin by pulling all of your personal energy into your center. Visualize light flowing from all areas of your body towards the center. The light snaps into the center, gently, but firmly. It rests there as a sphere of whirling light. To me, this often resembles the dynamic equilibrium of a hurricane or other focused storm system. This sphere is dynamic, yet harmonious and perfectly balanced. Gently hold the sphere together until it embodies these qualities. It may take several tries to get to this point. At first, it may spin away and dissipate back into your body, meaning you’d need to begin all over. It may also have a jagged or jangled feel, in which case you can visualize the edges becoming more smooth and less harsh.Eventually, the sphere will appear perfectly balanced and self-contained. Then, slowly expand the sphere. It will become less dense, but still retain its essence. Allow the sphere to fill your entire subtle body. At that point, you will feel a bit calmer and more focused, yet energized. Your mind should be clear and balanced. At that point, you will know that you have centered yourself.I hope you found this useful, informative, and even entertaining! I’ll be continuing my series on energy work soon, with an article on basic shielding.
